Five Fantastic Developments in our First Few Weeks!
Luke here, sharing five exciting developments since Streets Forward launched three weeks ago:
1. Streets Forward in the Chronicle—twice in one week!
Streets Forward was featured in last Sunday’s San Francisco Chronicle. Acclaimed transportation journalist Allison Arieff was particularly excited by our focus on advocacy for small wheels—from skateboards to strollers to delivery dollies.
The Chronicle featured us in another article advocating for protecting bike lanes from illegal parking to make bike lanes safe and more accessible.
2. Volunteer Meetups—connecting people and starting conversations
Last week, we hosted our first two volunteer meetups. It was amazing to meet so many engaged and excited people, most of whom have never volunteered with a transportation advocacy organization before—activating new people is essential to the success of this movement!
If you want to get invites to future meetups or learn more about volunteering, sign up at streetsforward.org/volunteer. We're excited to meet you and connect you with other like-minded people!
3. Our First Zine—analog advocacy
At our meetups, we shared the first Streets Forward zine, which offers an introduction to the organization, insights into our vision for the future, and our strategies for building towards that ideal. Grassroots organizing is essential to our movement, and making memorable printed matter amplifies that effort. We're giving away the zines for free—if you see us around, flag us down and we'll give you your copy.
Want us to mail you a zine? For a one-time gift of $25 or more or a monthly gift of $10 or more, we’ll send you five—one for you and a few to share!
4. Growing the movement—12,469 people and counting
The response to our launch has been incredible! Over a hundred people have registered to volunteer and hundreds more have joined the movement by signing up for our newsletter. Getting informed is the first step to getting involved.
Please send this webpage to people you think may be interested in our efforts and suggest they sign up at streetsforward.org/sign-up.
5. We’re raising $400,000—momentum for the movement
A number of you have made monetary gifts since our launch, giving us an initial boost towards reaching our goal of $400,000 for the year. Thank you!
You can invest in the future of San Francisco at streetsforward.org/give — every gift helps!
If you or someone you know is capable of giving $10,000 or more, we're actively taking meetings with donors. Please reach out to schedule time with us: giving@streetsforward.org.
If you have questions, feedback, or suggestions, email us at hello@streetsforward.org. For those of you who already reached out, thank you for your engagement and patience as we work on getting back to you!
Thanks again, and take care,
